The men of the 442nd are by far one of the most popular bunch of US soldiers in the European Theater of Operation...They have achieved this enviable position through unswerving devotion to their duty; through exemplary conduct in performing hazardous tasks; through modesty of mannerism and mien.
At home: Pfc. Fred and T/5 Sherman Kishi...had to send a telegram to the WRA in Washington stating that, ‹Vandals have been terrorizing our parents and sisters at the family farm in Livingston,’ therefore,› request necessary steps be taken to protect their lives and property.’
Two American soldiers have to appeal to a government agency for protection for their parents and sisters - in their own country. Strong, isn’t it. If willingness to offer their lives in the service of their country cannot assure their family
of safe conduct, then what will? What more is there to the essence of loyalty? What more can they do?
