Henry Littlebird Sr. Great-great-grandson of Tom White Shirt

Eads, Oklahoma

I just want to tell you a little bitty sad story my grandson told his mother. He said, ‹Mom, can I tell you something? Did you know the white people killed all my grandpa’s Indians? Because they didn’t want us on the land anymore. That’s why they’re all under the ground now.’

My little grandson, he knows. When I was a kid, I didn’t know. So, from here on out, I’m not keeping my mouth shut. I’m telling everybody, telling all my grandchildren, and
I hope they can carry the story on because these people
are not going to be forgotten. We’re going to speak out for them. We’re going to give them words. We’re going to give them tears, and then we’re going to give them happiness.
